Precisely grinded glass beads are mainly used in the optical industry. Other uses are in the chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries, specificaly in back pressure valve and bearings.

Valves and ball bearings
Glass beads are often used in the production of valves and ball bearings, which are used in the chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries. These balls replace metal balls due to their specific properties, particularly their resistance to aggressive fluids.
Two main parameters in the manufacture of these beads are observed:
- Qualities of glass – borosilicate glass is often used for its hardness, compressive strength and high resistance to acids and alkalis (1.hydrolytic class).
- Precision grinding – grinding balls are produced by lapping technology similar to the grinding of metal balls. The achieved accuracy is in the order of thousands of a millimeter in both the tolerance in diameter and in the compliance with the roundness of the ball. The defined surface of smooth (polished) or rough (matt) can be according to customer requirements.
